Where exploring the nature's gift in the form of blessings and challenges are still a wish for many, people are moving forward to fulfill their desire of visiting SAR PASS.
Clad Mountains, flourishing forests, and unending streams and waterfalls are the precious natural beautifications around the valley that fascinates the trekkers.
Sar Pass literal means something different where SAR means Lake in the local language. One is needed to PASS a small normal frozen lake from Tila Lotni to Biskeri Ridge during trekking.  Therefore, SAR PASS is the name of the trek.

Location of Sar Pass-

  • It lies at the Parvati Valley (distance: 48km) of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, India, with the altitude of 4220m/ 14000ft.

Best time to visit Sar Pass-

  • February, September, November

Weather-

  • Summer (10 degree Celsius- 20 degree Celsius)
  • Winter (0 degree Celsius - 10 degree Celsius)
  • Trip needed to be planned before 28 days, and should not be more than 4-7 days. So plan accordingly.

Camps of Sar Pass-

Kasol – Base Camp:

  • Kasol, smaller yet alluring place at the Himachal placed at the banks of river Parvati followed by the same valley between Bhuntar and Manikaran, and chain follow the river rill and gentle slope which further becomes rough and dizzy.

Graham camp:

  • Ravishing villages surrounded by Rhododendron trees and traditional Himachal houses.

Min Thach camp:

  • This path commonly used by localites of Himachal for domestic purposes.  And the best place to spend the night after a tiring day.

Nagaru camp:

  • Following Nagaru, some parts are covered with snow which makes it a little difficult to cross.  Teamwork and a better sense of humor can help a lot to go through it. Where a tricky trek gives soreness to your body, dazzled view of forest and mountain tops covered with snow relaxes your spirit and reminds you of your favorite dream about the trek.

Biskeri Thach camp:

  • Further trekking to Biskeri Thach followed by Sar Pass with the sensational views of Tosh Valley covered with snow, will keep you alive to explore more and more. Also, it offers an amazing landscape of the pine forest and the Himalayas all around. Just take rest, have your lunch, explore the place and spend the night in camps.

Barsheni:

  •  After trekking from thick forest to high hills, from tricky slopes to rough land, from the traditional view of Himachal to thrilling Sar Pass, reach the barsheni village which is the starting point for the treks to kheerganga, tosh valley, etc.

Highest camps of Sar Pass- 

Biskeri Thatch, Bhandak Thatch, Tila lotni, Guna Paani, Fual Paani, Zirmi are few of the highest camps, among which:
  • Snowy white-mountains around the first camp at ZIRMI resembles a lot like molten gold when the sun spreads its beam during sunrise and sunset, which is worth to see from this point.
  • Proceeding to the second camp at Tila lotni which is way dizzier and difficult than the previous one, strongly recommends for slow, steady, peaceful and careful walking.
  • Tilalotni is the last camp before reaching to the Sar Pass, and after a long and adventurous trek the sight that emerges at Sar Pass beholds, is something beyond imagination, with all the essence of beauty.

Trekking in Sar Pass-

  • Starts from Naggar, nearby Manali and moves to upper slopes of Himachal Pradesh.
  • From distance, you can see forests of Pine, rhodendron trees, and snowy top-hills while starting from the Parvati Valley, which also includes the waterfalls and eye-catching sight-seeing all around, followed by the crossing of rivers.
  • Sleeping in the tents at night and waking up with breathtaking sunrise in the early morning, satisfies the soul.

Things to carry along with:

  • Leather Gloves (important), trekking shoes and torch.
  • Essential clothes like woolens and rainproof jackets, trek pants. Other than that sunscreen, lip balm, and moisturizers to keep skin hydrated.
  • Required medicines that needed to be carried i.e. NorFlox TZ, disprin, pain relieving sprays, crocin, and Glucose and ORS sachets.

  Important things to remember:-

  • Physically and mentally preparation of an individual.
  • The sense of humor, inelegance and spirit and unity with the team.

 Things to do in Sar Pass-

  • Mountains gives the best view for both sunrise and sunset, where, the dawn can relax to your eye and heart more than, when you see it over the screen of the latest technologies, and the nights where the sky is filled with stars, they are so close to you that you can take them to your home, which makes you to just sit back and talk to the nature silently for a little while.
  • Amazing view of rivers, mountains, forests, and valleys are the things not to miss at any cost.
  • A realization that how much nature has in its womb defines the ability of nature to beautify herself on its own.
  • The 100ft long snow slides are the real bliss.
  • Meeting new people while trekking will bring your world a little closer to you, from your boring daily life schedule.
  • Jogging at the nearby grounds of the camps in the early morning and coming back for the tasty breakfast, energizes your whole day.

How to reach Sar Pass-

        Via Air:

  • The Bhuntar Airport at Bhuntar town also known as Kullu-Manali airport lies at NH21 about 32.3km, 10km away from south of Kullu town, is the nearest airport to reach.
  • Air India and other private airlines are providing regular services to the airport.

        Via Road:

  • Kasole is 30km away from Bhuntar.
  • If journey starts from Delhi to Bhuntar, NH1 is the path up to Ambala.
  • Further from Ambala, en-route to NH22 to Chandigarh and later NH21, where Bilaspur, Sundernagar, Mandi, and Kullu are the stops in the midway.
  • Buses from major bus terminals on this route are also available.

       Via Rail:

  • The nearest broad railheads are at Chandigarh, Pathankot, Kalka to reach Kasol.
  • Nearest narrow railhead is at Joginder Nagar.
